Located just south of downtown Atlanta, Mechanicsville was a once–vibrant working class neighborhood that had been in decline for decades. Multiple groups including the Atlanta Planning Department, a local CDC, the state and Columbia Residential worked together to create 74 new and renovated affordable rental homes to revitalize the neighborhood. Taking advantage of Low–Income Housing Tax Credits, these homes will be rented to those earning 60% or less than the area mean income for 15 years, after which the tenants have an option to purchase their home. Each new home was certified under the EarthCraft House program by SK Collaborative, providing comfortable, efficient, healthy housing for working families.
